Key holders need to ensure that the shop, equipment, and everyone in it remain safe and secure:

  • "You unlock it, you lock it". If you can't lock it yourself, ensure that you've turned the duty over to another keyholder on your way out the door:
    • Look them in the eye and say "I'm leaving XXX unlocked, it's all yours", and wait for them to say "Yes".
    • We're all distracted geeks and might say "Yes" without really listening, so make sure you actually have the other person's attention first.
  • Ensure that anyone you let in, and anyone they let in, is following the intent of the ShopUsage guidelines; if in doubt, check with Steve, Joyce, or Dave M.
  • Follow the ExitChecklist when you lock up. You're the last line of defense against Murphy. Things need to be turned off, safed, padlocks pulled on, doors yank-tested; never assume the other person already did it; any one mistake should always be caught by someone else, most often you.
